FOUNDATION COURSE 2005

After completing an Access 'Art and Design Course' at college I proceeded on to a foundation course. It was during this time that it was suggested to me that I should become an Art Therapist, mainly because of my own personal experiences. Also because I was able to empathize with people on many levels.

Although experiencing various personal problems in my life, I continued to work very hard on my education and art became my own form of therapy.  It enabled me to escape from life's problems and made me aware of how 'therapeutic' art can be for a troubled mind.

It was also at this time I was introduced to one of the founder members of 'thenervecentre' and I became a volunteer which helped give me direction and purpose to achieve my aim of becoming an Art Therapist.

Further discussions pointed out to me that the banner could read:

Right - Racism Keeps Britain Apart

THEN THERE WAS BUBBLES

Bubbles Side

Bubbles

My Favourite Piece

Bubbles is on a political theme in as much as saying that we all live within our own bubble nowadays and don't care what is going on in the big wide world as long as our small part of the world is running smooth.

Bubbles Front

Bubbles was created by first making a plaster of paris cast of my face, then doing a model cast of my head and shoulders, when dry it was cut in half to remove. To put Bubbles together, I rolled lots of little balls of clay and placed them inside of the casts, allowing them to dry leather hard then removed each section, shoulders, neck and head from the casts.

I kept each section moist by spraying them with water until I had pieced them all together.

Once the clay dried it was then fired and a glaze was placed over it... My original turquoise test  glaze was much more even in colour and so, I'm not as happy with the finished result as I would have liked and intend to re glaze Bubbles in the future.

So watch this space!
